BitDefender Internet Security 2009 has a rich collection of Internet Security tools to keep your computer clean and secure. This easy-to-use suite provides total protection against viruses, spyware and different web threats that could infiltrate a machine connected to the Internet.
The antivirus tool provides excellent virus detection and has already received acclaim from different quarters. Bit Defender's fast and accurate antivirus tool scored 100% in Virus Bulletin's test lab (VB100%), passed the ICSA test and caught 97.3% of malware in AV-Test Lab's collection of Trojans, bots and other malwares. It did very well at false positive tests in most labs, could detect rootkits, and detected and removed all inactive and active samples of stealth software in AV-test's lab. Bit Defender also cleaned up infections, eliminating all traces of malware in files, although some of the registry entries remained.
Bit Defender's firewall also performed well in most test labs, monitoring both inbound and outbound data. There are five configuration options within the Firewall tab: Status, Traffic, Advanced, Activity and Zone. In the Status tab you will find a real-time graphical display of the internet connection and other related information. A sliding bar in this tab allows you to change the security level simply by choosing between Ask, Allow Recommended and Game Mode. Bit Defender uses a white list to identify which applications are acceptable and which should not be allowed to access the Net. The parental control feature is good and allows you to set web filters and timing restraints to the web access of your child.
The suite provides a 'Quick Tasks' section on the status screen, where common scanning tasks can be performed by a single click. The default configuration is good enough for most users, but to change options and settings you will have to navigate through several menus and submenus, with little help or information available on-screen.
