ZoneAlarm AntiVirus 8.2 provides a good firewall along with the antivirus software, but does not provide anti-spyware and protection against instant messenger attacks. Nor does it protect against cookies and adware. It has a much smaller feature set than that of other market leaders in security products, including ZoneAlarm's own security suite. It has a well designed interface on top of the antivirus engine, based on Computer Associates' Vet Anti-Virus, and comes with a 10-part tutorial for basic users.
Zone Alarm's firewall did extremely well in various labs, and the antivirus software has also proved to be very effective. In Virus Bulletin tests with live viruses, previous versions of Vet earned the coveted VB 100% rating in six of its six most recent Windows tests - on a par with Norton AntiVirus.
Installation of ZoneAlarm with Antivirus is extremely easy. The configuration wizard leads you through the setup and the program automatically scans your system for viruses afterwards. This scan can be stopped if you do not require it. But it doesn't provide a pre-installation scan, which would have been an extra measure of protection.
The main features of ZoneAlarm antivirus software include:
â?¢ Powerful Antivirus Protection.
â?¢ Network and Program Firewall.
â?¢ Operating System Firewall (OSFirewallâ?¢) .
â?¢ SmartDefenseâ?¢ Service.
â?¢ Email Security.
â?¢ Wireless PC Protection.
The latest version provides enhanced virus detection capabilities, and an Auto-Learn option function helps in reducing alerts. The firewall configuration and maintenance is made incredibly easy with the help of the setup wizard, but ZoneAlarm also provides detailed and granular control over the firewall and antivirus. You can assign different security levels for both your local network and the internet connection, and it automatically detects all wireless connectiona. The firewall can block all ingoing and outgoing pings if required. The antivirus works on an advanced Heuristic Detection algorithm that works to protect against new threat which have not yet been detected and recorded in the database.
The interface is user-friendly interface and does not require much interaction either for scanning or updates. Most of the configuration tasks are easily understandable. This suite performed above average in different labs, and is a good bargain for students and home users.
